Good day to all who are on this site. Probably each of us wants to soar the brain about the creation of a bootable USB drive. Best option available in one fat the button that magically turns the USB device boot flash drive.
Ventoy is a free tool open source that allows you to load from a USB stick, almost any ISO images. You no longer need to repeatedly format the flash drive to write the new system. All you need to do is to copy the required ISO files. You moved all the images Ventoy self-organized in their own menu. Thus, importantly, supports booting in UEFI mode and in normal Legacy mode.
Warning: If you have several external drives, be sure go to “Device” and set the exact flash drive to be made bootable. And, best of all (from sin), remove from the USB port of the computer much. Do not press the button “to Install and “Update” until you are sure the right choice.
100% open source.
Easy to use.
Fast (limited only by the speed of copying the. iso file).
Direct download of the ISO file extraction is not required
Legacy + UEFI supported simultaneously with one stick.
UEFI Secure Boot supported (with 1.0.07+).
Supported ISO files larger than 4 GB.
Native style boot menu to Legacy & UEFI
Supports most operating systems, tested more than 200 iso files.
Not only download, but also the complete installation process.
ISO files can be listed in a list / TreeView mode.
The Concept Of “Ventoy Compatible”.
The Plugin Framework.
Read-only USB drive during boot.
USB normal use without protection.
Do not destroy data when upgrading.
No need to update Ventoy the distribution.
Ventoy based on Grub2 and creates two partitions on the drive. One FAT and one exFAT. The latter is then also displayed in the Explorer. Now copy your ISO there. Important: “Full path to the ISO file (directories, subdirectories, and file name) MUST NOT contain spaces or characters other than ASCII”.
Once all that is done, you can boot from a flash drive and install Windows or Linux. Knoppix and many other ISO can also be downloaded this way. When loading displays a shortcut menu with the setup files that it contains, which Ventoy reads directly from the ISO. This is very interesting, if you have a “big” flash drive, for example, with 128 GB. Then it is very convenient.
How to start using Ventoy?
- Insert the USB drive into the usb port.
- Extract and run Ventoy, file Ventoy2Disk.exe.
- Select the USB drive and click Install (Install).
- Answer the question of whether to also delete the contents on the flash drive, and then security would confirm this.
- If you receive a message that everything installed correctly, one or more ISO images can be copied directly to a new section in the Explorer.
Due to the fact that Legacy BIOS and UEFI are supported equally with one memory stick you should know exactly what image you want to boot from the stick. Many ISO images do not support UEFI (EFI) boot and run only in compatibility mode in the BIOS.
Ventoy is very easy to use and powerful tool. It allows you to boot directly from the ISO file and in no way limits the speed of Live systems. In addition, you can also use a USB flash drive as an ordinary drive, keeping on the personal information. Work Ventoy it does not hurt.
And if there will be a new version of your favorite distribution, it is enough to delete the old iso image and load in a new one. So you can easily add and remove any of the supported iso images of disks. Which in turn is very convenient, is not necessary each time to create and overwrite multiboot USB flash drive. The whole process is done by adding and removing iso images, and all the more from you, not what you want.
